House T&I rolls out Amtrak bill — But action this year unlikely

HOUSE T&I UNVEILS BIPARTISAN AMTRAK BILL: The House Transportation Committee unveiled its Amtrak reauthorization yesterday, and while the bill has bipartisan support, the short House calendar and a slow-walking Senate make it unlikely that Congress will act this year. The four-year bill caters to a number of Republican wishes — including boosting private-sector involvement and trying to fix the money-losing food and beverage service — but keeps Democrats on board by not requiring an effective funding cut.
